Shone on Disease-fighting Effect of Omega-3s
Recent research on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids has begun to bring them
into the realm of molecular medicine. Two years ago, Jing Kang revealed a transgenic
mouse engineered to convert omega-6 fatty acids into omega-3s. Since then, Kang’s
group and several other laboratories have begun to use the mice to study a variety
of diseases. Kang’s lab recently published two papers showing that higher
levels of omega-3 fatty acids in mice inhibit colitis and slow melanoma growth.

Medical Liability and the Hidden
Curriculum
Why isn’t medical liability reform part of the official
medical curriculum? It should be, argues Jason Sanders. And if
an educational focus on patient safety and professional responsibility
were maintained, it could be.
