“The Placebo Effect”

This lecture will provide a definition and historical background of the placebo,
and explain the nature of the placebo effect and some of the theories behind
its existence. Mischoulon will review the use of placebo as a research tool,
associated controversies over placebo use in research and the placebo effect
in clinical practice. He will also review potential new strategies for placebo
use and alternatives to conventional placebo-controlled trials.
