Molecular
Middleman Puts Thyroid Hormone in Developmental Signaling Pathway
The active form of thyroid hormone is regulated by a feedback mechanism so its
level in the blood rarely fluctuates. Yet it can vary wildly within cells. Antonio
Bianco and his colleagues have identified a molecule that helps regulate how
much of the active hormone is produced in cells. They report that regulated activation
of the hormone plays a role not just in homeostasis, but also in a critical developmental
pathway.
