Essex was among the first Harvard researchers to focus on the HIV epidemic in Africa, and over the past 20 years he has established successful field sites and research collaborations in Senegal, Tanzania, and Botswana. His talk will focus on research needs for Africa as well as the practical challenges involved in the implementation of research studies in the developing world.
