Do-It-Yourself DNA Poised to Remake Molecular Biology
A new technology to synthesize DNA rapidly and inexpensively has been reported by George Church and his colleagues. Because customizing DNA is common practice in biology labs, the findings may lead to a transformation in biomedical research.

Red Book Grants List to Be Posted Next Week
The annual call for internal applications for invitational awards appears online Feb. 14. Potential candidates—including postdoctoral fellows and faculty members—must apply to HMS first, and only those selected may submit proposals to specific grant programs.

School Celebrates Alvin Poussaint
A visiting lectureship fund has been established at HMS in Alvin Poussaint’s name, and the first lecture and scientific sessions will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12. The scientific program is free and open to the public.
