Harvard Introduces Joint MD-MBA

HMS and Harvard Business School have announced that they will launch a five-year joint MD-MBA program in September 2005. The program's mission is to develop outstanding physician leaders, skilled in both medicine and management, who will seek out positions of leadership in health care and related fields. Ron Arky was one of the early architects of the joint-degree program.

Town Forum to Be Held on Medical Ed Reform
HMS faculty, students, and staff are invited to share ideas about the HMS Medical Education Reform Initiative at an open town forum on June 7, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the TMEC amphitheater. A progress report will be given on the status of the initiative, which is being led by medical education dean Malcolm Cox.

In Health Care, Do We Get What We Pay For?
Erica Seiguer reports that the pay-for-performance trend in health care is gaining strength in the public and private sectors through experimental programs that reward providers for excelling in selected outcome measures. It is not clear, though, that financial incentives will lead to long-term improvement in patient care.
