Technique Tracks Tumor Escape into Lymph Nodes

Mukesh Harisinghani (left), Ralph Weissleder, and colleagues report that a technique Weissleder invented, using submicroscopic magnetic particles infused into the body, detects cancer cells that have spread to the lymph nodes. And it does so with greater sensitivity than other diagnostic approaches. Requiring no surgery, the method promises to change clinical practice.

Four Directions Fetes 10th Anniversary
The Four Directions Summer Research Program passed a double milestone at the end of June, says program coordinator and medical student Siobhan Westcott. Not only did one of its founders, Patrick Linson, complete his residency, but the program celebrated its 10th anniversary. Above are some participants in the 2003 session.
