Protein Pegged to Onset of Puberty

After years of study, reproductive biologists still have not pinpointed the molecular players that enable the brain's hypothalamus to signal the beginning of puberty. But a recent study by (from left) William Crowley, James Acierno, Stephanie Seminara, and their colleagues reports the identification of a gene, GPR54, that appears to play a critical role in getting the message out.
