This summer, as part of the Harvard Green Campus Initiative, nine student interns, most of whom came from one of Harvard's graduate programs, have been working with different schools and departments within the University to research and test new environmentally preferred approaches to campus operations. The wide range of projects include researching alternative fuel vehicles, environmental procurement, lighting efficiency, building system performance, pesticides reduction, and construction and demolition waste recycling. At this event, this year's interns will present the results, findings, or implementation of their work.

Begun in April 2000, the initiative is an interfaculty and interdepartmental program that seeks to turn Harvard University into a living laboratory for the practice and development of campus environmental sustainability. It is currently focused on reducing resource consumption and pollution production associated with procurement, building design, construction, and operations. The initiative is supported by many departments and faculties across campus, and its core efforts are funded by the president and provost.
