Focus:
New Tool Speeds Study of Mammalian Protein Function
A genetic vector developed by Yang Shi and colleagues can dampen the output of selected mammalian genes through RNA interference. The interference technique in mammals was first demonstrated last year, and now the vector makes the process more practical and powerful. It may be used in some cases instead of laborious knockout animal models to pinpoint protein function.
