Hormone Leptin Tied to Fat Breakdown in Muscle

Research led by Barbara Kahn and Yasuhiko Minokoshi establishes a new link between the hormone leptin and a signaling pathway of fat metabolism in muscle. The findings substantiate the influence of obesity on diabetes and suggest a second look at leptin in obesity treatment.

Countering the Culture of Test-Taking
Tarayn Grizzard says that we have become such a society of test-takers that learning sometimes gets sidetracked. If comprehensive exams continue to be viewed as useful for evaluating ability and achievement, perhaps they should be refined and overseen nationally. This might better ensure their fairness and track their consequences.
