Mutation Reported with AIDS Vaccine

One of eight monkeys died in a promising AIDS vaccine trial due to mutation of the virus, reported researchers Norman Letvin (left), Dan Barouch, and colleagues. They are not surprised since HIV transforms itself rapidly. But viral escape may be a major limitation of this type of killer T cell-boosting vaccine.
