Focus: A study by Gürol Tuncman, Gökhan Hotamisligil (l to r), and colleagues identifies an inflammatory mechanism in a mouse model that helps drive the development of obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. Central to their findings is the discovery of an enzyme in fat, muscle, and liver cells that appears crucial to the pathway for obesity-induced insulin resistance and, perhaps, obesity itself. |
