Common Aspirin Reveals Mechanism of Insulin Resistance
Very high doses of one of the most commonly used drugs of all time, aspirin, has been found to reverse the elevated blood sugar levels and insulin resistance associated with type 2 diabetes. The study, led by Steven Shoelson, suggests a new protein target for controlling the disease.

Summers Salutes Health Care East and West New Harvard president Lawrence Summers (left) used the occasion of a June conference between American and Chinese physicians to underline the importance of breaking down barriers to knowledge through international and multidisciplinary programs. "We have very different needs. We have very different traditions," said Summers. "But it is clear that there is an enormous amount that can be learned in both directions." With Summers is HMS dean Joseph Martin, who introduced him at the conference.
