Focus:
Cell Adhesion Receptor Caught on Bended Knee

Researchers led by M. Amin Arnaout have solved the first crystal structure for an integrin, one of a family of shape-shifting cell adhesion receptors involved in tumor blood supply, osteoporosis, and some infectious diseases. The structure shows a flexible joint, suggesting a mechanism for the molecule's activation.
