Focus:
Depression Linked to Hot Spot in Brain

By increasing the activity of the protein CREB in the nucleus accumbens of the brain, William Carlezon and colleagues made rats give up on a swimming task more quickly than usual. This show of rodent depression ties the state of mind to that region of the brain.
