Majority of Alzheimer's Plaques Cleared from Brains of Living Mice
Brad Hyman (above), Brian Bacskai, and colleagues have demonstrated in mice that antibodies against the protein amyloid-beta can clear Alzheimer's plaques from the brain. It is the first direct demonstration that amyloid-beta deposits can be reversed, say the authors.

New HMS Academy Will Support Teaching
To elevate the role of teaching at HMS, Dan Lowenstein has organized the Academy at Harvard Medical School, a program to revitalize the mission of medical education. The Academy will bring salary support, advocacy for promotion on the basis of teaching, and a forum for discussing educational issues.

The HHC's Policy Roundtable Series, which began in February with a talk by Francis Collins (above), features the Human Genome Project and its consequences. The series continues through April.
