'Organoid' Built that Mimics Thymus

Richard Evans, Mark Poznansky (l to r above), David Scadden, and others have constructed an organlike device that works as the thymus does, churning out mature T cells. Whether it could eventually be implanted to take the place of the thymus is an open question, however.

The Summer Honors Undergraduate Research Program (SHURP), sponsored by the Division of Medical Sciences, held its 10th anniversary reunion symposium on August 18 and 19. HMS alumnus Dennis Vaccaro spoke about the development of science careers to the more than 50 program alums in attendance.

Time Off from School Is Time On for Research, Outreach
Erica Seiguer documents the summer activities of three classmates, one who is working at a drop-in center on a Sioux reservation in South Dakota and two who traveled to Vietnam to do research. One of the student researchers, Vi Nguyen, says, "Most of the ... knowledge I use has been from Patient–Doctor I—how to be compassionate, how to listen. These lessons are cross-cultural."
