James Breitmeyer will lead the new Harvard Clinical Research Institute, signed into being June 28 by HMS, Partners HealthCare, and CareGroup. The institute will centralize and expand clinical trials to strengthen the Harvard medical community's role in clinical research.

Catherine Chu explores what happens when an individual himself is diverse—that is, has a mixed-race background. In a society that puts weight on ethnic and racial labels, those who are biracial or multiracial often deal with a lot of conflict, much of it unacknowledged. At HMS, mixed-race students have an organization to deal with these issues.
