Strategy Is Developed to Fortify DNA Vaccine Against the AIDS Virus

Targeting AIDS, Norman Letvin (left) and Dan Barouch have boosted a DNA vaccine for the virus with a T cell growth factor, supercharging the immune system. The response was striking—a 30-fold increase in activity for antibodies and a fivefold increase for T lymphocytes over the vaccine alone.

Nathaniel Duca High School Science Competition Underscores HMS Outreach
A regional competition sponsored by HMS, the Southern New England Regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, showcased area talent, including a student who had gone through an HMS science enrichment program for underrepresented minority students. The event, which relied on HMS faculty judges, drew two hundred students and teachers from southern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The winner of the regional competition, Nathaniel Duca, is shown.
