Focus:
Findings Turn Genetic Trash to Treasure
Bertha Madras and colleagues at the New England Regional Primate Research Center have identified a genetic variation in the dopamine transporter gene that may be linked to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. What's more intriguing than the link, Madras says, is that the variation occurs in a stretch of the gene considered worthless by conventional standards.

Talk, Poster Sessions Inaugurate Cancer Center
In a Nov. 21 lecture to inaugurate the Harvard Center for Cancer Biology, leading cancer researcher Bert Vogelstein of Johns Hopkins described investigations into the molecular basis of colorectal tumors. Following his talk were poster sessions illustrating Quad-based shared resources and core facilities of the DanaFarber/Harvard Cancer Center, the umbrella organization that encompasses the Center for Cancer Biology.

These Soldiers Take Aim at Community Ills
Soldiers of Health, an organization based in Roxbury devoted to improving health and community bonds, draws much of its strength from neighborhood high school students and HMS student volunteers. The mission is to build a cadre of committed "soldiers" to serve as a community resource.
