Virus Passes Acid Test for Entering Cells

Walther Mothes and colleagues have discovered that avian leukosis virus breaks the mold of viral entry by requiring both low pH and receptor priming to fuse with a host cell. A central tenet of virology has been that a virus requires only one of these methods.

Symposium Points to Medicine's Continuing Climb
Attending the alumni symposium on the Quad in October, Erica Seiguer was struck by the interest the alumni showed in keeping up with advances in biomedical science. To her, it was a demonstration of lifelong learning. "This is why I went into medicine," she said.
