Gene Related to Tumor Suppressor Linked to Stem Cell Pool
Amid much publicity on the power of stem cells, Frank McKeon (left) and colleagues have found that mice lacking the p63 gene—cousin of tumor suppressor p53—are born without skin. They conclude that p63 is critical to maintaining the epithelial stem cell pool, which gives rise to the skin.
