ICCB Discovers First in New Class of Mitosis Inhibitors

Researchers at the Institute of Chemistry and Cell Biology (ICCB), led by Tim Mitchison and Stuart Schreiber, have discovered the first known small-molecule inhibitor of a motor protein involved in cell division. The molecule disrupts mitosis, leading to a malformed mitotic spindle that resembles a star (right).
