Getting to the Heart of Lipid Lowering

peter libby Why does lowering cholesterol reduce heart attacks? The data do not support the old answer that it's because lowering cholesterol opens up blocked arteries, says Peter Libby. Instead, the evidence points to cholesterol lowering as a way of decreasing the capacity of arterial plaques to rupture and cause blood clots.
