Blueprint Made of Machine that Splits DNA

Michael Sawaya and Tom Ellenberger (front) have created the first atomic-resolution image of the molecular motor that unwinds the DNA double helix during replication. It is one of a family of proteins, the helicases, that remain mysterious though recognized as fundamental machines of the cell. "We know next to nothing about how these helicases move on DNA," Ellenberger says.

Public Health Coalition Uses Stats Against Big Tobacco

Created by students and researchers at the School of Public Health, the International Marketing and Policy Analysis Consortium Targeting Tobacco (IMPACTT) is disseminating research to policymakers to facilitate tobacco control policies at the state, federal, and international levels. As members of IMPACCT, Kamala Dansinghani and Sean David, both postdocs at HSPH, are encouraging students from the Medical School to join as well.
